The University Innovation Fellows (UIF) program focuses on committed students. The international network in cooperation with Stanford University's d.school teaches skills and new ways of thinking with the help of mentors in order to drive sustainable and contemporary change at universities around the world. At Hamburg University of Technology, students developed a podcast, an entrepreneurship hub, and a campus sustainability event as part of the program. The Authority for Business and Innovation (BWI) is funding the project, which is anchored at the Institute for Technology and Innovation Management under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. Cornelius Herstatt, for the next four years with a total of 150,000 euros with the overarching goal of strengthening Hamburg's innovation ecosystem in the long term and sustainably.

"Often at universities, something is done for students at many ends, but just not with them. Yet they often know their challenges and interests best," says former and long-time mentor Malte Krohn, explaining the idea behind UIF. "We observe that many universities face similar challenges. The UIF program offers the chance to learn from each other. This mutual support is very inspiring," Krohn continues. For the past five years, a total of 13 TU Hamburg students have put their innovative, creative and entrepreneurial concepts into practice. BWI's funding ensures the TU teams' participation fees for the next four years, including travel funds for UIF meetups in Stanford and Twente, as well as a budget for a project position and events.
