Goals:
This two-day workshop uses improvisation and free-speaking exercises as concrete tools to prepare speakers for unexpected situations that occur during presentations, meetings and discussions. Practical techniques help participants to step out of their comfort zone and to develop their authority, focus anxiety, prepare for blackouts and become more self-reliant. The training is tailored to individual participant questions and uses role-play to investigate proposed scenarios and to train coping strategies, which can be used in real-world situations.
Content Outline:
The seminar begins with verbal and non-verbal communication training, connecting breathing to thinking, to relieve panic in stressful situations. Participants are given free-speaking exercises in order to train quick thinking, staying focused, engaging an audience in a topic and in line with the speakers’ goals.
Strategies are then discussed and practiced in order to deal with disruptions during the impromptu talks. Participants will then explore various scenarios in meetings and in the audience discussion and techniques are trained in order to handle awkward situations. Improvisation exercises are trained to help the presenter maintain focus and composure. Role-play situations are tailored, practiced and discussed in the roles as both presenter and moderator.

Prof. Maximilian Kiener (Ethics in Technology, TU Hamburg)
Prof. Dominic Wilkinson (University of Oxford): "AI and the Future of Informed Consent",

Führungspositionen in Teilzeit?

Goals:
This is an activity-based workshop, led by a theatre professional, whose expertise is in eliciting the researchers’ narrative, identifying the speaker's authenticity as a storyteller and supporting the speaker to effectively communicate the importance and relevance of the work and the core message in the talk. Participants learn narrative techniques, practice telling stories and integrate these techniques into their talk. The seminar provides participants the opportunity to connect a narrative to their core research, build the story, create suspense and anchor points of reference throughout the talk with their story. Additionally, they will learn to develop a protagonist and learn how to "chunk" or segment units of action in the talk.
Content Outline:
• Position the research with a meaningful and relevant narrative
• Tailor the story to the audience
• Begin with a strong opening to get the audience involved
• Create clear and identifiable characters and environment
