111 TU Hamburg students receive Germany scholarship

The Technical University of Hamburg awarded Germany Scholarships to its students for the seventh time in a row at a ceremony on May 4. 111 scholarship holders were delighted to receive the award. In recognition of their outstanding academic achievements and social commitment, they will receive a monthly grant of 300 euros for one year. Particularly in times of pandemic, the financial relief ensures that the young researchers can continue their studies successfully. The income-independent and interdisciplinary scholarships are funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as well as by private individuals, companies and foundations.
In 2022, a total of 111 students at TU Hamburg will benefit from the Deutschlandstipendium, 49 of whom are studying for a Bachelor's degree and 62 for a Master's degree. The number of scholarship holders was increased by twenty compared to the previous year. The scholarship is awarded to talented students who, in addition to their excellent academic performance, also demonstrate social commitment and have successfully overcome obstacles in their own life and educational path. To this end, incentives are provided for private sponsors, companies, associations as well as foundations to assume responsibility for education and the next generation of skilled workers. This in turn creates a basis for a diverse scholarship culture.
With the Deutschlandstipendium, the German government is strengthening support for young academics. In addition, the scholarship program complements the existing instruments of student financing, such as the broad-based support provided by BAföG, need-based educational loans and the scholarships of the organizations for the promotion of gifted students. A total of 418 students at TU Hamburg have been supported with a Deutschlandstipendium since 2016. In 2020, 28,077 scholarship holders nationwide received the grant from the federal government and private sponsors. To this end, around 29 million euros in private funding was raised by the total of 310 universities.
In addition to new supporters, long-time supporters also increased the number of scholarships they supported compared to the previous year. This year, the following private individuals, companies and foundations contributed:
