Happy Birthday NIT: In June, the private management institution at Hamburg University of Technology - the first business school in northern Germany - celebrated its 25th anniversary. More than 300 guests gathered for the anniversary celebration, including Hamburg's second mayor and science senator Katharina Fegebank, TU President Andreas Timm-Giel, and NIT founding CEO and executive member of the Kühne Foundation Board Jörg Dräger.

The idea for the foundation came from the then TU President Hauke Trinks in 1998. In close cooperation with the TU, more than 750 master's students have now successfully completed their education at the NIT, the majority in parallel with engineering studies. The concept of teaching at weekends, in English and often in parallel with work or study, is the basis of the NIT's success.

NIT students, for whom on-campus apartments are available, are very diverse: currently, half of the students are female. More than 70 percent of the graduates come from non-European countries, and 80 percent of them have remained in Germany after graduation - with an increasing trend. The NIT thus stands for highly qualified migration and diversity.

"The NIT will grow significantly in terms of student numbers over the next few years," says NIT CEO Klemens Kleiminger about the institution's goals. "Talks are underway with TU Hamburg and other universities in the northern German region to join forces and jointly offer more degree programs and continuing education."

Science Senator Katharina Fegebank: "Twenty-five years ago, bright minds at the Technical University of Hamburg had the excellent idea of launching northern Germany's first business school. A quarter of a century later, the NIT is an important player in our scientific community and in Hamburg as a business location. The graduates∗ of the NIT are top professionals and executives for Hamburg companies. With their skills and know-how, they play a decisive role in shaping the structural change towards sustainable development and provide impetus for innovation and technological change. I warmly congratulate all those associated with NIT on their anniversary and wish them all the best for the future!"

President of the TU Hamburg Andreas Timm-Giel: "In cooperation with the NIT, we train outstanding specialists and managers: with a full engineering degree at the TU combined with an MBA or MA in Technology Management. They have lived at the NIT on the beautiful TU campus and have been able to gain international, intercultural experience here."
