Management Sciences and Process Engineering are among the top 10 academic subjects in Germany according to the Shanghai Ranking.
The Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) performs impressively in the current Shanghai Ranking “ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)” 2025, placing in the top 10 nationwide in two subject groups.
In 2025, TUHH is represented in the ranking with three subjects. The field of Management ranks within the global top 300 (Rank group: 201-300) and holds a national position between 3rd and 7th place. In the categories "World Class Faculty" and "Research Impact," which assess academic influence, TUHH ranks 2nd nationwide among 30 institutions.
Similarly strong evaluations are reported for TUHH's Process Engineering. The subject Chemical Engineering ranks within the global top 500 (Rank group: 401-500) and holds 8th to 10th place in Germany.
Mechanical Engineering ranks globally in the top 400 (Rank group: 301-400) and nationally between 11th and 15th place.
Both subjects at TUHH stand out especially because publications by their researchers receive citations more frequently than comparable articles from other institutions, measured by the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI).

The renowned „ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS)“, established in 2009, evaluates universities worldwide in 57 subject areas across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences. GRAS is based on nine indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration. Each year, GRAS presents rankings for approximately 20,000 subjects from about 2,000 universities in around 100 countries and regions.
