Professor Schuster had been President of the NIT since the beginning of 2024. He has now announced his resignation for personal reasons. “My professional work as a researcher and head of an institute at TU Hamburg, combined with the honorary of NIT President, requires more time and attention than I will be able to give in the foreseeable future. An EU project on Artificial Intelligence with numerous academic and industrial partners will demand much of my time over the next three and a half years. With a heavy heart, I therefore relinquish my position at NIT,” said Professor Christian Schuster.
Reforms at the NIT are attributed to Christian Schuster; for example, he introduced a new degree program at NIT (Master of Business Analytics and AI) and initiated positive developments in the membership of the sponsoring association, which acts as the owner of NIT.
“Christian Schuster has decided to step down as President of NIT as of June 30, 2025. We respect his decision to focus primarily on research and teaching at TUHH and thank him for his important and lasting contributions to NIT,” commented Professor Andreas Timm-Giel, President of TU Hamburg.
In the interim, the long-time President of NIT and Chairman of the sponsoring association, Professor Otto von Estorff, will assume the duties of President. Together with the supervisory board of the Northern Institute of Technology Management, a successor will be sought through a structured process.
