Will hydrogen become the new climate-neutral natural gas? Innovative solutions for a climate-neutral hydrogen supply are becoming increasingly urgent in view of the bottlenecks in energy supplies. Professor Gerald Linke, Chief Executive of the German Gas and Water Association, will present the strategies available for the energy turnaround in the opening event of the new Future Lecture series at the Technical University of Hamburg. The new format is based on the five newly defined research fields of the TU Hamburg, starting with "Environmental and Energy Systems" on July 14.
The lecture will focus on the question of how hydrogen can be used to accelerate the energy transition to renewable energies. In addition to a suitable infrastructure, it is also necessary to clarify the CO2 footprint of hydrogen sources and the extent to which end devices, such as heating systems, can cope with the changeover. The share of electricity demand that can be covered by solar and wind energy also plays a role. At the end of the lecture, speaker Professor Linke will additionally address the legal framework, pricing policy and the obligations of EU countries with regard to their greenhouse gas targets.
