"Wow, that presenter is so good in front of an audience. If only that were easier for me!" Being a good speaker is often just a question of developing a set of skills and techniques. The use of voice and body language, an effective presentation structure and the dynamic use of language require awareness and practice. The workshop helps to identify and explore these requirements, from self-reflection to self-assurance and long-term excellence.
Content Outline:
• Effectively introducing yourself
• Structuring and engaging the audience in one’s talk
• Affirming the strengths and individual style of the speaker
• Improving body language and vocal quality, tactics for dealing with nervousness

Master Your Doctoral Project Successfully - Project Management for Doctoral Candidates

Goals:
Through short presentations and group work, you will become familiarized with the basics of project management which will be applied directly to your PhD project.
Content Outline:
Project management in an academic environment means: putting a project into effect alongside many other activities as quickly as possible, with great complexity and with the participation of highly diverse interest groups.
With the help of your own project - your doctorate – you will “live through” your project from the beginning till the end – having the doctoral degree. It will help you to structure your doctoral phase and to integrate all other goals and activities of your live which are important for you.
You are going to get an overview of your project, set goals and analyse your stakeholder. You are going to structure your project and to define milestones. At the end you’ll have an overview of the entire project that allows you to be the master of your project.

Der Promotionsvortrag und die mündliche Prüfung sind der krönende Abschluss einer langen Phase der wissenschaftlichen Ausbildung. Häufig wird dem Tag jedoch nicht mit Gelassenheit und Freude entgegen- zweitägige gesehen. Aufregung und Zweifel am eigenen Standing dominieren die Vorbereitung. Nutzen Sie dieses Disputationstraining, um eine Schlüsselkompetenz erfolgreicher Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler zu diesem Anlass zu optimieren: Das sichere und überzeugende Darstellen eigener Forschungsergebnisse. Writing and Publishing Research Articles: the Structured Approach

The goals of this two-day workshop are to facilitate and accelerate writing and publishing processes. We structure processes in steps and practice techniques that increase both writing efficiency and text quality. We start with planning the project and move on with outlining, drafting, revising and publishing.

• How to team up: collaboration with co-authors
• How to organise information: sections, paragraphs, sentences

Introduction to the Rules of Good Scientific Practice

Goals:
Based on the DFG-Recommendations and Guidelines “Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice (2013 and 2019), the participants will get an overview about the rules of good scientific practice and how to deal with cases of scientific misconduct. Frequent areas of conflict and the grey zone between questionable research practice, violation of rules and misconduct will be elucidated. Based on case examples of data management, authorship and publication process, and supervision, the concrete implementation will be presented. An overview of the German ombuds system will be illustrated, and the participants will learn to develop appropriate solutions to conflicts and other difficult situations in the process of science. They will have the possibility to ask questions and to resolve lack of knowledge and uncertainties related to the practical handling of Good scientific practice in everyday work.
The content of the course follows the curriculum “Good scientific practice” which was commissioned by and developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman and revised in 2019.
