Marcel Bengs, Alexander Kasinec and Zhi Kai Chong were awarded the Liebich Award 2017. The students of the NIT Northern Institute of Technology Management and the Technical University of Hamburg convinced with their academic achievements and their social commitment. The Dr. Dieter and Renate Liebich Foundation donated a cash prize to the winners.

Very good grades, social commitment

NIT employee Susanne Bannuscher-Hansen presented the certificates at this year's NIT Advent meeting on December 8, 2017. Dieter Podlech and Frank Schneider joined the celebrations to represent the Liebich Foundation. The 25-year-old Marcel Bengs received the award under the applause of fellow students and guests. The mechanical engineering student con- vinced the selection committee with a grade point average of 1.7 in his NIT study course "Technology Management". He also received many recommendations from other students because as the only German in NIT Class 18, he assisted international students in their acclimatization period and initiated numerous joint projects.

Video messages from far away

Zhi Kai, who comes from Malaysia, is currently doing an internship at Bayer in Leverkusen and was unfortunately unable to attend in person. In a video, he thanked the NIT and the Liebich Foundation for the award and his fellow students for the great times together. With an average of 1.7, Zhi Kai is also one of the very good students in the class. A fellow student recommended him for the award, saying,"Kai is one of the most humble and generous people I have ever met.“ Alex, who is from America, is currently visiting his family and was therefore unable to attend the Advent meeting. He had also sent a video with greetings in advance. The 26-year-old was praised by many fellow students for his great social commitment: "Alex brings us class mates together and encourages us to take on new challenges."

The Liebich Award for outstanding students

Every winter semester, the NIT awards the Liebich Award to those students who have shown very good academic achievements in their first year as a Master's student. For the first time this year, the jury also included social skills in the decision-making.
